ONLINE MENTAL HEALTH CHECKER

NHS Direct launches its first online mental heath checker after a rise in the number of people telephoning for help with depression and anxiety.  The symptom checker is aimed at victims of the credit crunch, as well as people going through stressful periods in their life.  It means people can seek help without having to speak to a doctor or nurse.

Creative Writing Group for Women

 Survivors of Sexual Violence 

 

Run by Pen and Tonic on behalf of

Tyneside Rape Crisis Centre

 

Tyneside Rape Crisis Centre is running a 10-session closed WRITING GROUP for women survivors of sexual violence.  Pen & Tonic will demonstrate the therapeutic value of writing and how it can help us to solve problems, feel more confident and improve health and wellbeing.

Please note: previous experience of creative writing is not necessary.  The group will begin on Tuesday 28th September 2010 (10.30 am - 12 noon) and places are limited.  If you wish to join the group or you know of someone who would be interested, please get in touch with us ASAP.

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID

MHFA England CIC are pleased to announce the launch of the

Youth MHFA instructor training programme

for people who wish to experience and then deliver the Youth MHFA course. The Youth MHFA instructor training programme lasts for seven days and is £1,900 + VAT per place.

We are currently promoting the following programme.

Programme 1 (Newcastle): 19 & 20 October and 3, 4, 5, 18 & 19 November 2010

Location:  The Dene Centre, Disability North, Castle Farm Road,  Newcastle upon Tyne  NE3 1PH.

If you or any of your colleagues are interested in becoming a Youth MHFA instructor, please find attached more details about the training programme including the application form. These details can also be found on the MHFA England website (www.mhfaengland.org).

Youth Mental Health First Aid (Youth MHFA) is an internationally recognised course designed specifically for those people that live, work or care for young people aged 11 – 18. Mental Health First Aid England CIC have adapted the course to be specific for young people in England.

The course provides information and training to promote a young person’s mental and emotional wellbeing and to enable participants to support a young person who might be experiencing mental and emotional distress.

The Youth MHFA course will teach you how to:

_ Spot the early signs of a mental health problem in young people

_ Feel confident helping a young person experiencing a problem

_ Provide help on a first aid basis

_ Help prevent a young person from hurting themselves or others

_ Help prevent a mental health illness from getting worse

_ Help a young person recover faster

_ Guide a young person towards the right support

_ Reduce the stigma of mental health problems
